It's still a part of the American dream: come up with a useful and fun invention or product, bring it to market and make a fortune selling it, and even end up changing the world in ways large and small. In this colorful, fact-filled book, author and lover-of-all-things-American Nick Freeth chronicles the 210 products that have become a common part of everyday life, but have still made their unique mark on the world. The "Stuff of American Life" ranges from the accidental invention of the world's most successful drink(Coca-Cola); a scientist's "Eureka moment" and creation of a toy based on physics (Slinky); pants made from a fabric tough enough for cowboys that are now worn across the globe (Levi's); 20th-century automotive achievements like the stylish Corvette and luxurious Cadillac; or cutting-edge technology like Windows or Google that continue to change our world today.

Have you ever wondered how toothpaste gets into the tube? How stripes get on a candy cane? More than just a travel guide, Watch It Made in the U.S.A. helps you experience firsthand the products, companies, technology, and workers that fuel our economy, from Ben and Jerry's to Harley-Davidson. "While many have argued passionately that it is time to put America and Americans first, Roger Simmermaker, in How Americans Can Buy American, shows us how. His book is a patriot's guide to shopping. The American worker and small businessman does not have a better friend." Patrick J. Buchanan Author, Syndicated Columnist and former Presidential Candidate "How Americans Can Buy American is a book from which both union and non-union working Americans can benefit. Applying the principles in this book will help save the American middle class by protecting middle-class jobs that pay good, middle-class wages." R. Thomas Buffenbarger, IAM&AW International President "Roger, you make people think and, on China, you make people stand up! Not bad. You ve been way ahead of the crowd!" In the spirit in which this website was founded, we've included this book in our shopping blog. Journalist Sara Bongiorni, on a post-Christmas day mired deep in plastic toys and electronics equipment, makes up her mind to live for a year without buying any products made in China, a decision spurred less by notions of idealism or fair trade—though she does note troubling statistics on job loss and trade deficits—than simply "to see if it can be done."
